Annual Events in Downtown Newark a Neighborhood in Newark, NJ

The Ironbound district of Newark has a Portuguese and Brazilian influence. Â There is an annual event in the area called Festa Junina, or Little Portugal Festival. Â This festival celebrates all things Brazil: food, music, dance, culture. It takes place every June from 11am-11pm on Ferry Street between Raymond Boulevard and Clay Street in downtown Newark NJ neighborhoods like The Ironbound District.

There are also some great celebrations during the rest of the year with activities for everyone to enjoy! In October there’s Columbus Day Parade that starts at 16th Avenue and Lincoln Park East (between Van Buren Place & Broadway) then goes down Broad Street ending up near Military Park by City Hall. In December there’s Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony in Military Park.

In February there’s a celebration honoring the African American experience and contributions to society with Black History Month Celebration at Lincoln Park East (between Van Buren Place & Broadway) or Marcus Garvey Day Parade on MLK Boulevard at Market Street, both of these events are great ways to learn more about Newark NJ neighborhoods like The Ironbound District!
