Durham is an exciting city in the Carolinas. It is part of the Research Triangle region, known for its research and technological industries. At Duke University are the Neo-Gothic Duke chapel and the museum, with works by contemporary artists including Ai Weiwei and Christian Marclay. The Nasher Museum of Art has works by European modernists like Pablo Picasso and Georges Braque. The Museum of Life & Science has a beautiful butterfly house, exhibits and habitat for butterflies and other animals.

There are many landmarks in town and many are great for a night out. The Duke Museum is an amazing addition to the university and features some wonderful artifacts from famous Duke families such as the Biltmore and the Whitney. In the nearby town of Cary, there is a world-class historic district. The downtown area has restaurants, theaters and even a zoo. In the nearby town of Hillsborough are the Raleigh-Durham International Airport and a major hub for the airline industry. It is home to the Charlotte Douglas International Airport as well as the Raleigh-Cary International Airport.

Landmark: Raleigh Museum & Gardens. This museum focuses on the natural environment of the area, including a vast array of exhibits, plants, wildlife and fauna. Raleigh is known for having some of the most beautiful scenery in the country. The museum showcases the flora and fauna native to the area. A trip on a tramway around the exhibits and viewing areas will allow the visitor to see many parts of the city. You can also take a self guided tour and see a little more of Raleigh. If you are at all interested in the history of the area, the museum also has a history exhibit on the area and its people.
