Fort Myers, as it is also known by locals, is the largest city and largest commercial center of Lee County in Florida. As of the 2020 census, the population has grown to 62,299 and in 2020 was expected to reach nearly 87,000. It is one of the few major cities in Florida with a strong economy. There are many historic buildings in Fort Myers that have been rebuilt to look like former places. There are also a number of fine restaurants, cafes and shops to satisfy every taste.
The area around Fort Myers is well known for its year round climate. This helps in maintaining a high level of tourism. This is a major reason that there are a number of national chains, including Carnival Cruises, which has come to Fort Myers. Other major companies in the area are All State, All American Inn and Cabela’s. There are also a number of small family owned hotels, motels and campgrounds available for rent throughout the area. The Fort Myers Convention Center is one of the largest and is located near the city center.
Fort Myers has many parks that attract a number of different activities. Fort Myers Beach Park and the North Port Pier provide a great place to spend some quality time with family and friends. There are a number of parks located in the suburbs that offer picnic areas and playgrounds for children. There is also an Aquarium at the Fort Myers Museum of Natural History.
