San Marco is a neighborhood in Jacksonville, Florida. It was developed as one of the first suburbs and “streetcar suburbs” outside of downtown Jacksonville by Alexander Jackson Davis, who also designed Eastern State Hospitalin Williamsburg, Brooklyn Museum in New York City and Biltmore House in Asheville North Carolina. San Marco has been designated an historic district on September 11th 1993 to celebrate its 100 year anniversary.

The original streetcar line that ran from Downtown Jacksonville along Kings Road – now Roosevelt Boulevard – into what became San Marco opened for service at noon on November 12, 1892. Tracks were laid down across the wetlands area between Hogans Creek (now Baymeadows) and Old Kings Road (now Roosevelt Blvd). The trolley stopped at three stations in what is now San Marco: Bay Street, Park Place and Ramsey Road. The trolley was a vital commuter link to Jacksonville’s central business district
