Sandy Hill is a neighborhood in Paterson, New Jersey. Sandy hill has an interesting history because it’s located on the Passaic River and was originally called “back of the hills” The area became known as “Sandy Hill” after flooding forced many residents to take refuge here during Hurricane Irene in 2011.
The population of this community increased by nearly 50% from 2000 to 2010 according Census data. It seems that people who are priced out of nearby areas like Rutherford have started moving into Sandy Hill which contains affordable housing close to downtown Paterson.
