Quincy MA city government

The capital city of the State of Massachusetts, Quincy is the seat of political government for the city of Quincy, Massachusetts. The old historic city hall building in Quincy Center is still standing at 1320 Hancock Street. It is one of the oldest buildings in Quincy. The building was once a commercial and government office complex. It was constructed by the Seabrook Railroad Company. In the early 20th century it was called “The New England Commercial Center”.

In 1811, the area was named after the governor of Massachusetts, Jonathan Winslow. He chose the name after the city of Revere. The Massachusetts Statehouse and the town square are located on the western end of town. The streets are named after local leaders and notable citizens. The downtown business district is on the main street of town. It is one of the oldest areas in the state. There are many businesses and hotels located here.
