Rainbow Groves is a neighborhood in Fort Myers FL. It has about 200 homes and lies just west of the Airport Boulevard on the south side of U.S. 41 (Tamiami Trail) east of I-75 and north of Daniels Parkway, near San Carlos Park Road. Rainbow Groves was developed by William Ellington Jr., who also developed nearby Village Oaks, which is located to the east at approximately 1670 North Tamiami Trail
The area encompasses . The name “rainbow groves” came from an irrigation system that had been built for orange trees decades before it became a residential subdivision.” In 1894 Wm H Gregory planted 1000 acres with citrus trees including oranges, grapefruit, lemons and tangerines. The system irrigated the trees from a large reservoir just south of today’s Daniels Parkway and east of US 41.
