Tenafly is a major neighborhood in Englewood NJ. It has two train stations, one on the Bergen County Line and one on the Main/Bergen County Lines of New Jersey Transit. The area was developed as an affluent suburb at about the same time that neighboring Englewood Cliffs was first settled.
In 1881 Tenafly became part of Harrington Township but broke off to become separate municipality in 1898.
The Tenafly train station is located along the main road, named Hudson Street. This street crosses over Van Brunt Boulevard where there are shops and restaurants. If you go north from here on Hudson Street you will find a mix of more commercial buildings with some apartments mixed in, including the post office which has its own ZIP code (07681). There is also an elementary school that serves all of Harrington Township called Tenafly Elementary School. Going south from this intersection on Hudson Street brings us to homes built mostly after World War II-era styles like Tudor revival or Cape Cod style houses with bay windows added for light as well as attached garages and driveways.
