Near Pelican a neighborhood is Indian Prairie Preserve State Park with over 700 acres of wetlands and trails. The park has many natural habitats such as pine flatwoods, cypress domes and prairies.
Wildlife sightings have included the unmistakable American alligator, coyote, raccoon, fox squirrels water snakes in addition to other reptiles or amphibians that are native to Florida.
– Visit the preserve by land or water, and enjoy the hiking trails. The park provides opportunities for bicycling, horseback riding and hunting as well. If you are fishing try one of their many freshwater lakes that include Bass Lake, Blue Heron Lake or Cypress Pond. No license is required for these ponds but a Florida Saltwater Fishing License will be needed if you want to fish at Grande Lagoon Marina – which offers access to the Gulf Of Mexico too!
